A top Palestinian militant leader has died after being shot in the head by Israeli troops last week, Palestinian officials said.

Hossam Jaradat, the West Bank leader of Islamic Jihad, was shot during a raid on the Jenin refugee camp on 23 August.

Jaradat was being treated at a hospital in Jordan where he died on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old had been wanted by Israel for two years and had survived five attempts on his life, Islamic Jihad said.
