Michael Herbert, Steven's father, said he was "relieved and pleased" by the verdict.
"It's been very stressful and a drain for all the family. We still haven't got over that day.
"It's a brilliant verdict for us all and Steven has got justice, that's what we wanted at the end of the day."
The court heard Steven Herbert was the "innocent victim" of a violent assault.
Prosecutor Andrew Robertson, QC, had described the attack on Mr Herbert as "a fast moving, violent incident".
