Safety measures agreed for Liverpool and Everton derby days

New safety plans have been agreed to help protect football fans at derby day matches between Liverpool and Everton after claims of a "crush" emerged.

Liverpool City Council approved a review of crowd management into the ground and communication with fans.

The clubs will work with the FA and the Premier League for weekend fixtures and early kick-offs on derby days.

A inquiry was launched after more than 1,000 Everton fans were held up outside Anfield before a match in January.

Some fans claimed they had been "crushed" in the melee, but police said no-one was injured.

The council has asked Merseyside Police to notify it of any serious or significant complaints on derby day matches.

The force has been requested to invite accredited supporters' groups to attend pre-match briefings.

The review includes the access to Anfield and the queuing arrangements for fans to prevent congestion outside turnstiles.
