A surfer has gone missing in waters off northern NSW. Rescue teams are facing treacherous conditions as the search continues for an Irish surfer who is missing in waters off northern NSW.
Byron Bay police, a Westpac helicopter and members of the Volunteer Rescue Association are searching around Tallow Beach for the man, who was caught in a rip while surfing with two friends. The tourist went missing on Saturday after going surfing near Byron Bay with two mates.
"A 26-year-old man was located in waters a short distance away. He was assisted from the water and did not suffer any injuries," police said. Byron Bay police, a Westpac helicopter and members of the Volunteer Rescue Association are continuing the search on Sunday around Tallow beach for the man, who was caught in a rip.
Soon after another man, 20, was rescued from the rocks with minor injuries. The man's two friends were found on Saturday: one 26-year-old man was helped from the water and did not suffer any injuries; a 20-year-old was found on rocks with minor injuries, police say.
The search for the third surfer continues as large waves batter the beaches. With rough seas hitting the NSW coast this weekend, the Roads and Maritime Services are urging all boat users to take extreme care on the waters on Sunday.
A warning about dangerous surf conditions along the entire NSW coast was on Saturday issued by the Roads and Maritime Service.
