North Korea has nearly completed construction of an improved site for launching long-range missiles and appears to have conducted multiple tests of rocket motors for them, the U.S.-Korea Institute, part of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, said Tuesday in a report based on assessments of recent commercial satellite images. It said the improvements at the site, the Sohae Satellite Launching Station, near the border with China, suggested that North Korea intended to launch “larger rockets with greater ranges and payloads.” The report, published on the institute’s website, 38north, was the latest indication that North Korea was moving toward another launching at Sohae, where it successfully fired a long-range missile in December 2012 that reached as far as the Philippines.
