Hundreds of people were moved to shelters as a tropical storm passed close to the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Tropical storm Paul has hit the coast of the Mexican mainland after skirting around the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.
Tropical Storm Paul, now downgraded from hurricane strength, was expected to unleash heavy rains and cause flooding in the coastal resorts. It came ashore near La Reforma on the western coast, after being downgraded from hurricane status.
The storm was packing winds of 45mph (75km/h) as it approached the coast. Two people are said to have died. Earlier, Paul lashed the resort of Los Cabos on the peninsula with heavy rain and winds of nearly 30mph (45km/h).
Paul is expected to weaken further before hitting land on Thursday. Paul could still cause flash flooding after it dumps rain on the Sierra Madre mountains, forecasters say.
The tropical storm is predicted to lash the coastline near the resort of Mazatlan. Tropical storm Paul, which reached winds of 110 mph (177km/h) on Monday, has reportedly killed two people.
