Beauty: indie perfumes
http://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2014/aug/02/beauty-indie-perfumes-sali-hughes Version 0 of 1. Whenever I hear of a perfumer without advertising spend, a modest marketing budget and a genuine passion for scent, I go on a mission to sniff out their wares. Occasionally they disappoint, but often, as with Tom Daxon, they impress. Daxon (I've yet to meet him, but he looks about 12) recently launched a range of nine fragrances, sold online and at Liberty. He may not appreciate my saying it, but his perfumes are similar in mood to those by the wonderful Byredo: modern, elegant packaging for delicious scents made in a respectful and traditional way. His are a fraction cheaper, and exceptionally lovely. Crushing Bloom, a dark, sexy floral; Vachetta, a spice and tea-leaf blend; and Reverie, a warm, spiced iris scent, are my favourites, but the entire collection is available in a generous, £45 sample set to try at your leisure. More affordable, but still very special, is Shay & Blue, founded by a former bigwig at Chanel and Jo Malone. Its Almond Cucumber (£30) is exactly what I feel like wearing in sticky weather and not a million miles from my beloved (but prohibitively expensive) Eau D'Hiver by Frederic Malle. Sali loves: waterproof eye makeup removers Lancôme Bi-Facil Non Oily Instant Cleanser Sensitive Eyes, £21A brilliant remover. Everything comes away immediately with zero effort. L'Oréal Paris Dermo Expertise Absolute Make-up Remover, £3.33L'Oréal brands are great at eye makeup removers generally, but this one is particularly good for the price.
