The 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One is being marked in events across Wales. Lights are going out across Wales to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.

The Llandaff Cathedral service, led by Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, will also be attended by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as well as First Minister Carwyn Jones. In Cardiff, buildings across the city will turn the lights out with a solitary lamp lit in the Council Chamber in City Hall.
Mr Jones said: "It is an opportunity to reflect and commemorate a terrible period in our history that changed the world and shaped the Wales that we live in today." At Cardiff Castle a light will be placed in the window of the iconic clock tower.
He added: "Today marks a defining moment in our history. The events that took place following 4 August, 1914 had monumental consequences that rippled throughout our history." The New Theatre will remember those who did not return with a single spot lit candle above the main doors of the theatre.

A group of officers and staff formed a Gwent Police history group to research the men who died and poppy crosses will be planted in a new field of remembrance at the force headquarters in Cwmbran.
To mark the start of the war, South Wales Police have recorded a film featuring serving officers, each reciting a verse of Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen.
The force is also appealing for information from the public to help them research the history of officers who fought and died.
