Two men found seriously injured on railway tracks in Birmingham Two men found seriously injured on rail tracks in Birmingham 'fell from height'
(about 1 hour later)
Two men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found on railway tracks near Birmingham New Street station. Two men found seriously injured on railway track outside a busy station in Birmingham are believed to have fallen from a nearby bridge.
British Transport police (BTP) said it was not yet clear how the men, one of whom is in his 30s, came to be on the railway line in an area at the north end of the station on Thursday. Officers are looking closely at a bridge over the track as one line of inquiry. British transport police (BTP) said the men's multiple injuries were believed to be consistent with a fall from height after the pair were discovered badly hurt by the north end of New Street station on Thursday.
The incident disrupted services in and out of the central station from 6am. Officers are treating the incident as "non-suspicious", adding there was "no third-party involvement".
Both men have been taken by ambulance to the city's Queen Elizabeth hospital, having sustained what BTP described as "serious injuries" in an incident that was being treated as unexplained. Earlier, officers had been searching for clues around a bridge over the track.
Police have urged anyone with information to call on 0800 405040. The incident disrupted commuter rail services to and from the station from 6am.
The incident meant some Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry and London Midland rail services were running with delays up to 20 minutes, according to National Rail Enquiries. West Midlands ambulance service said it had been called out to "two men who had reportedly fallen from a bridge" near the station at 5.50am.
Network Rail said normal running had resumed but warned rail passengers to expect some delays between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The men, described as being in their 20s, were later taken to the city's Queen Elizabeth hospital.
A police spokesman said: "Both men's injuries are believed to be consistent with having fallen from height – no third-party involvement, no suspicious circumstances. "Both are still in hospital for injuries which are still described as serious."
