Man dies after steam train fall

A 62-year-old man has died falling from a platform as he ran to board a heritage steam train in Hampshire.

The man, from the Southampton area, was running along the platform at Alresford to get onboard a Watercress Line steam train when he fell on Saturday night.

The Real Ale Train, which covers two round trips between Alton and Alresford serving speciality beers, was about to leave when the incident happened.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has begun a health and safety inquiry.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
