An appeal for information anyone who saw the lorry or the woman has been made by South Wales Police. The road was closed until 09:00 BST causing a five-mile tail back along the M4 eastbround.
A spokesman for the force said: "Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who saw the lorry or a pedestrian in the area of the Llangyfelach interchange prior to the collision to come forward."
Following the incident the road was closed for investigations resulting in hour-long delays for some motorists. It was reopened at around 09:00 BST.
