A policewoman charged with attempting to murder a colleague with whom she had had an affair, has been released on High Court bail.

Diane Marie Northcott, 40, whose address was given as Newtownabbey PSNI station, is accused of shooting Laurence Smyth in the station.

A defence lawyer said Ms Northcott had given up her gun.

Lord Justice Campbell ordered she must have no contact with Mr Smyth or his family and report to police every week.

Sergeant Smyth was shot in the leg and neck and the court was told that he remains seriously ill in hospital.
