Paramedics initially took the child to Blackpool Victoria Hospital shortly after 11:00 BST. She was then transferred to the specialist children's hospital. | |
Det Insp Nick Connaughton, from Blackpool CID, said: "We are treating this tragic incident as an unexplained death and are continuing to investigate just how the child has come into difficulties in the pool. | |

Former lifeguard Carole Greenwood said she "dived" into the pool when she saw the girl at the bottom. | |
She said: "I noticed there was a child at the bottom and I dived in and rescued the child and followed on with resuscitation. | |
"She did start to breathe and the ambulance took over." | |
"It's quite shocking and I feel really upset for the girl," she added. | |
