A Washington thinktank has issued an apology after telling the human rights group Amnesty International to “suck it” on Twitter.

After Amnesty International posted a tweet critical of America’s human rights record, someone with access to the Twitter feed for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Twitter account replied: “Your work has saved far fewer lives than American interventions. So. suck it.”

So apparently @CSIS tweeted this to @amnesty. cc @RobertMackey @TheWarRoom_Tom @BlogsofWar @Brown_Moses pic.twitter.com/ZIaHb6KD4m

CSIS is a 52-year-old Washington DC thinktank that often consults on foreign relations and international policy. It apologised on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
