Defence Force Academy male cadet granted bail on sexual assault charges Defence Force Academy male cadet granted bail on sexual assault charges
(about 3 hours later)
A male cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy has been granted bail on two counts of sexually assaulting female colleagues. A teenage cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy (Adfa) has been charged with two counts of sexually assaulting female colleagues.
Harlan Agresti, 19, is charged with sexually assaulting the two female officer cadets in June 2013 and February this year. Harlan Agresti, 19, was arrested on Tuesday and held in custody overnight to appear in the ACT magistrates court on Wednesday.
His lawyer says he will plead not guilty. He has been charged with sexual intercourse with a female cadet without her consent in June 2013 and sexual intercourse with another female cadet without her consent in February this year.
No details of the allegations were given in court, but Agresti’s lawyer, Alyn Doig, said his client would be pleading not guilty.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall remanded Agresti to appear in court on 3 October, granting bail of $10,000 subject to conditions.
Agresti must reside in Adamstown, Newcastle, report to police three times a week, refrain from consuming alcohol and other drugs, and surrender his passport.
He must have no contact with the alleged victims or other cadets and must abide by a curfew from 8pm to 8am.
The defence force said the two female cadets separately reported the allegations to Adfa staff on Monday.
It was referred to the Australian defence force investigative service and then to ACT police.
