Space shuttle launch faces delay Nasa delays space shuttle launch
(30 minutes later)
Nasa officals are investigating a technical fault which could delay the launch of space shuttle Atlantis. Nasa officals have delayed the launch of space shuttle Atlantis by at least 24 hours after engineers reported faults on two fuel gauges.
Engineers are currently examining problems with two of the four gauges on the spacecraft's external fuel tank. Two of the four sensors in the craft's external fuel tank indicated that the tank was dry, even though there was fuel inside, a spokesman said.
A spokeswoman said the countdown was being held on standby while the launch team awaited the engineers' report. The US space agency will now attempt to launch the shuttle on Friday.
The shuttle was scheduled to lift-off from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, at 1631 local time (2131 GMT) on Thursday. The 11-day mission will deliver Europe's first permanent space lab to the International Space Station (ISS).
