A 91-year-old man has died in a house fire in Carryduff, on the outskirts of Belfast. | |
Fire crews were called to a house off the Hillsborough Road just before 01:00 BST on Tuesday. | |

BBC News NI reporter Rick Faragher said the house where the man lived was located in Thorndale Park, a cul-de-sac, just off the Hillsborough Road. | |
"Neighbours tell me he lived alone," he said. | |
'Large flames' | |
"One woman who lives two doors down from the property told me she heard multiple explosions, as many as five. | |
"She and the rest of the small street came out to see what was happening and saw what she called large flames. | |
"The fire services were quickly at the scene. It took around 20 minutes to put the fire out." | |
He described the damage that had been caused. | |
"There's extensive damage to the garage, the wooden doors at the front and the back have been blown off it, but there's no major damage that I can see to the main structure of the house, certainly what ever these explosions were, the impact and the noise was clearly significant." |
