Monet landscape found in late German collector's suitcase
Version 0 of 1. The taskforce looking into the late German collector Cornelius Gurlitt's long-hidden art trove says officials have found a landscape by Claude Monet in a suitcase that he took to a hospital. The group said on Friday that the court-appointed administrator of Gurlitt's estate this week received the case, which had been kept at the hospital, and reported finding the light-blue landscape. It said it would check whether the work was stolen by the Nazis, as it was doing with many other works in Gurlitt's collection. Experts believe Monet may have painted the work around 1864. The taskforce says it appears very similar to the French artist's 1867 work Garden at Sainte-Adresse. Gurlitt died in May. |
