Ashya King: UK and Spanish lawyers in High Court discussions Ashya King allowed to fly to Prague for treatment
(about 1 hour later)
Lawyers representing the parents of five-year-old brain tumour patient Ashya King have been discussing his case at the High Court. The parents of five-year-old brain tumour patient Ashya King have been given permission by the High Court to take him to Prague for treatment.
The hearing, conducted by telephone, involved UK and Spanish lawyers representing Brett and Naghmeh King. He is expected to travel by private jet this evening ahead of starting proton beam treatment.

Ashya remains a ward of court. A full hearing is due to take place at the High Court on Monday. They were later arrested in Spain under a European Arrest Warrant.
He is being treated at the Materno-Infantil hospital in Malaga. Ashya was made a ward of court at the request of Portsmouth City Council, but leader Donna Jones said that status would end once he was admitted to the Proton Therapy Center in Prague.
The parent want him to have proton beam therapy, but the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust took the view that in Ashya's case proton beam treatment was of "no proven significant benefit" over standard radiotherapy and would make no difference to the likelihood of his survival. Lawyers representing the Kings had earlier been discussing his case at the High Court in a hearing, conducted by telephone and involving UK and Spanish lawyers.
The Kings are unable to make a decision on his future treatment while he is a ward of court. The Kings were initially arrested and held in Spain before a European Arrest Warrant was withdrawn, and they were reunited with their son.

The Portsmouth Local Safeguarding Children Board (PSCB) has announced it will hold a review of the Ashya King case.
Chair of the independent watchdog Reg Hooke said: "I believe it is essential that the PSCB independently review the circumstances that resulted in Mr and Mrs King feeling it necessary to take their son Ashya from Southampton General Hospital to Spain, the response of the authorities in seeking to secure Ashya's wellbeing, and the consequences of that response."
He said he hoped the Kings would participate in the review and its findings would be made public.
