Excavations are taking place in a Cambridgeshire garden linked to the disappearance of a woman who went missing nearly two decades ago. Deborah Steel, 37, landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, was last seen at about 01:00 on 28 December 1997. Her body has never been found. The search at the house in Longfields will continue throughout the weekend. A 70-year-old man arrested on suspicion of her murder on Tuesday has been released on bail until 2 October. Det Ch Insp Martin Brunning, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "I am convinced the answer to Deborah Steel's disappearance lies in Ely and that there are people in the city who can provide key information. "Deborah has not been seen for 17 years and her family deserve to know what happened to her. "I am appealing to anyone who may be able provide fresh information on this case to contact us." |
