Jacqui Lambie says Clive Palmer may be her party leader but he's not her boss
Version 0 of 1. Outspoken rookie senator Jacqui Lambie says Clive Palmer may be her party leader but he’s not her boss. Lambie tells the ABC’s Australian Story, in a program on Monday night, there have been tensions within the Palmer United party but she respects Palmer. “I think Clive Palmer needs to be a lot more honest across the table with me and stop clowning around at times, because that really annoys me,” she says. “I’m a person of action and I want it done and I want to know what’s going on. “I don’t back down to Clive Palmer and I shouldn’t have to. Even a billionaire needs to be told every now and then. “Clive Palmer might be my leader but Clive Palmer’s not my boss. The Tasmanian people are my boss and that’s it, full stop.” Lambie said there had been differences of opinion over the schoolkids bonus and income support bonus, which PUP helped repeal – albeit later than the government wanted – alongside the mining tax. However Lambie, who was elected in 2013 and holds a crucial crossbench vote, said she was impressed by Palmer’s knowledge. “Watching him those first two weeks in the sittings in parliament, I just thought, ‘Yep, you’re the real deal’,” she says. “I need to keep Clive Palmer off the Tim Tams so I can keep him alive long enough to keep mentoring me.” |
