Pink unveils new acoustic project
http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/sep/09/pink-unveils-new-acoustic-project Version 0 of 1. Pink has revealed an acoustic folk project with Canadian rocker Dallas Green. Under the name You+Me, the duo will release their quiet, pretty debut album on 14 October. The word “Pink” doesn’t appear once in the press release that announces the band’s LP, Rose Ave. Instead, the singer is identified by her real name, Alecia Moore. You+Me is described as a “passion project” for both musicians, inspired by their “instant connection”. Green, former frontman for the punk band Alexisonfire, now operates as City and Colour. He apparently met Pink via her husband, motorbike racer Carey Hart, and the pair decided to try writing some songs together. Holed up in Los Angeles, they completed eight tunes in one week, and resolved to turn them into an album. The finished product comprises 10 tracks, with titles including No Ordinary Love, Capsized, and From a Closet in Norway (Oslo Blues). Though best known for her upbeat pop songs, Pink has made occasional forays into folk and country music, including two collaborations with the Indigo Girls. Speaking to Billboard at the end of 2013, she explained that lots of her friends are singer-songwriters. “They’ll always be the ones who get asked to sing a song [at parties],” she complained. “I’m never going to be asked to sing a song, because I’m a pop star. So I’m used to being shit on. I’m used to being the underdog. I’m used to being looked at as a corporation. And it’s not until people hear me sing at that barbecue [that their perspective changes].” Pink’s last five albums have all reached the UK top five and have sold a combined 40m copies worldwide. City and Colour’s most recent LP, 2013’s The Hurry and the Harm, reached No 32. |
