A body has been found by search and rescue teams looking for a missing teenager who got into trouble in the river Wear on Monday night. Jordan Roberts, 17, from Sunderland, was playing with his two brothers and a family friend at the river near Finchale Abbey, in County Durham. Jordan and one of his brothers got into trouble in the water just after 5pm. The friend, in his 20s, pulled the brother out of the water and performed CPR on the riverside before the brother was taken to hospital. But he was unable to reach Jordan. A search and rescue effort was launched, involving a police helicopter, fire and rescue officers trained in water search, a police dog section and an underwater diving team. The search was suspended due to bad light at around 8.30pm, and the specialist teams restarted their efforts on Tuesday morning. The ambulance service said it had dispatched a hazardous area response team to the scene. The surrounding area, including a number of roads, was cordoned off by police. |
