Pakistan: Troops Fend Off Militant Attack in Karachi
Version 0 of 1. The Pakistani Navy said it repelled a terrorist attack over the weekend after a six-hour exchange of fire at a naval dockyard in the southern port city of Karachi. Two militants were killed and four were arrested when they tried to attack, a navy spokesman said. A junior ranking officer was killed, while an officer and six sailors were wounded in the clash on Saturday night, the spokesman said. The Taliban claimed responsibility on Tuesday, according to the BBC. A Taliban attack on Karachi’s international airport in June prompted a military offensive against militants in the North Waziristan tribal region. The attack on the dockyard is the second on a military facility since the offensive began. |
