Version 0 of 1.

A schoolteacher who was carrying a concealed firearm at school accidentally shot herself in the leg when the weapon went off in a toilet, a school official said on Thursday.

The gun went off shortly before class started at Westbrook elementary school, in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville. The teacher was severely injured when the bullet entered and exited her leg, and she was rushed to the hospital.

No other faculty or students were nearby. Officials are investigating how the gun discharged.

The school official did not release details about the woman, but said she was carrying the weapon legally with a concealed firearm permit.

Utah state law allows teachers and anyone else licensed to carry concealed weapons to wear a gun in a public school.
