What was the worst punishment you faced while at school?

Version 0 of 1.

Earlier this year, schools were given guidelines on the punishments they can hand out to pupils, which include cleaning up dining halls and classrooms, writing lines, weeding, taking down graffiti and picking up litter.

But one of the punishments suggested by Michael Gove is now for the chop. His successor as education secretary, Nicky Morgan, has said schools should not punish pupils by making them run laps around the playground, in agreement with campaigners who argued that physical exercise should be a pleasure rather than a punishment.

So how were you punished when you were at school? Were drills and detentions the order of the day? Did you have to write essays on the specific reason you'd missed PE; or 100 lines of "I must not smoke/snog/drink in the bike sheds"? Were you ever suspended, and what for? And which punishments, if any, really worked?
