Ray Rice on Saturday attended a football game at his high school in New Rochelle, a New York City suburb. WABC-TV in New York reported that the running back, who was this week released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL, attended the game with his wife, Janay Rice, and their infant daughter. Rice was released and suspended on Monday, after video of him punching Janay was published. Previously, he had been suspended two games by the league over the incident, and the Ravens had announced their support for him. The case has put the NFL in an uncomfortable spotlight as it faces criticism for how it handles cases where players are accused of domestic violence. Two NFL defensive ends, the Carolina Panthers’ Greg Hardy and San Francisco 49ers’ Ray McDonald, have been playing while similar cases continue. Hardy is set to play on Sunday despite awaiting a jury trial having been found guilty of assaulting and threatening an ex-girlfriend, a verdict he is appealing. McDonald played in his team’s season opener a week after being arrested on suspicion of causing injuries to his pregnant fiancee. He has not been charged but a police investigation is ongoing. Elsewhere on Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was released on bail, after being indicted on charges of beating his four-year-old son. |
