The funeral of top Irish model Katy French has taken place in County Wicklow.

The 24-year-old died last Thursday four days after she collapsed at a friend's house in County Meath.

She remained in a coma at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan until she died.

On Monday, hundreds of mourners attended the funeral at St Patrick's Church, Enniskerry at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was represented by his aide de camp, Captain Michael Tracey and also present were swimmer Michelle de Bruin, former Irish rugby player Shane Byrne and singer, Chris de Burgh.

Ms French was buried in a small wooded graveyard adjoining the church.

A post-mortem examination carried out on her body on Friday concluded she suffered brain damage.

It has also emerged the 24-year-old had taken cocaine before she was admitted to hospital.

It is understood the National Drugs Unit and National Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating.
