Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of a mother-of-five who was stabbed to death as she tended her horses in the New Forest. A man suspected of her murder has also appeared in court. Justin Robertson, of no fixed address, is accused of murdering Penelope Davis, known as Pennie, on Tuesday 2 September. The 36-year-old appeared at Winchester crown court where he was remanded in custody until a plea hearing on 18 December. A trial is expected to take place next year, possibly in March. Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man and 46-year-old man have been arrested and are being questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender. This brings the total number of people arrested in the murder inquiry by Hampshire police to eight. A 28-year-old woman from Hythe, Hampshire, arrested last week on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until 3 November. A second woman, Leanne Doyle, 24, was charged with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice. Doyle, of Beech Crescent, Hythe, has been bailed and is due to appear at Winchester crown court on 1 October. A 22-year-old man, previously arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail, while a 37-year-old man held on suspicion of assisting an offender has also been bailed. Mrs Davis, a 47-year-old supermarket worker, was discovered by her husband, Pete, with multiple stab wounds in a field near Beaulieu, Hampshire. |
