About 2,500 people are expected to attend a concert in honour of an 18-year-old rapper murdered in a street stabbing.

The Peace Day event, at Birmingham's REP theatre, is a memorial to Joshua Ribera and his friend Kyle Sheehan, who was also stabbed to death.

Organisers said they hoped to "promote an anti-violence message".

Mr Ribera's mother, Alison Cope, said the event would "raise awareness of the effects of knife crime".

"It is so important that we get the anti-violence message to young people," she said.

Organisers Activating Creative Talent said the day would be split into two parts, with stalls and activities during the day, followed by live music in the evening.

Mr Ribera, who performed under the stage name "Depzman", was stabbed through the heart in September last year near TC's nightclub in Selly Oak.

Teenager Armani Deniro Mitchell was jailed in March for his murder.

Mr Ribera was attending a memorial event in honour of Kyle Sheehan, who was stabbed in the leg in Jiggins Lane, Bartley Green, a year earlier.

Despite several appeals, no-one has been charged in connection with his death.
