New Christmas Island administrator to be former Liberal MP Barry Haase

A retired Liberal backbencher has been appointed the new administrator of Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Islands.Barry Haase will replace former ACT chief minister Jon Stanhope in the role.Stanhope has been outspoken on matters involving asylum seekers on Christmas Island since being appointed administrator in 2012.Haase begins the three-year appointment in October. He represented the federal seats of Kalgoorlie and Durack for 15 years and retired at the 2013 election. |
