James Attfield murder: Mum fears going a 'little bit mad'

The mother of a man found murdered with 102 stab wounds said she feared going a "little bit mad" if she thought about what had happened "too much".

The body of James Attfield, 33, was found near Lower Castle Park, Colchester, on 29 March.

No one has yet been charged in connection with his death. Ten people have been arrested.

"My main question above everything else is 'why?'," said Julie Finch, his mother.

"But I would go a little bit mad if I thought about that too much."

Mr Attfield, who had five children, was described by his mother as "lovely and friendly, with a wicked sense of humour".

"He was very quiet and shy, and kept himself to himself," she said.

"Someone out there has to know something. Come forward and tell police about your suspicions," she urged.

Police patrols will be taking place in Colchester town centre to speak to people on the six-month anniversary of Mr Attfield's death.

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett, from Essex Police, said officers were still looking through footage seized from 100 cameras around the area where Mr Attfield was killed.

"We're still out there speaking to witnesses and trying to find whoever's responsible," he said.

A 19-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this week, remains in custody.
