The singer, X Factor judge and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will make her West End debut this winter as Grizabella in the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. The role sees her follow in the paw prints of performers including Elaine Paige, who originated the role in the West End in 1981, and Betty Buckley, who subsequently played the part on Broadway.

Grizabella, the “glamour cat”, does not feature in TS Eliot’s collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, which provided the inspiration for the musical. Grizabella’s big number in the show is Memory, which Scherzinger recorded with Il Divo for the opening track of their Broadway-inspired album A Musical Affair in 2013.

Cats is one of the longest-running shows in the West End, having played for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances at the New London theatre, where it opened in 1981. The revival brings together the original team of Andrew Lloyd Webber, director Trevor Nunn, choreographer and associate director Gillian Lynne and designer John Napier.

Previews for Cats at the London Palladium begin on 6 December 2014. The show opens on 11 December 2014 and runs until 28 February 2015.
