West Ham’s Diafra Sakho escapes punishment for alleged Luke Shaw butt
Version 0 of 1. Diafra Sakho does not have a case to answer for the alleged head-butt of Manchester United’s Luke Shaw that left the Manchester United full-back with a black eye. After examining video evidence from West Ham United’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday, a three-man panel of former referees decided the clash was not a red card offence. The incident occurred during the second half, with Shaw, a summer arrival at Old Trafford from Southampton, appearing to come off worse following a tussle with Sakho. The episode was missed by the referee, Lee Mason, but Shaw was seen complaining to the assistant referee, Andrew Garrett, who shrugged off the 19-year-old’s complaint. With no action taken at the time and with no mention of it in Mason’s post-match report, it allowed the incident to be reviewed retrospectively by the Football Association and the former Metz striker could have faced disciplinary action. The panel decided Sakho’s challenge warranted no further attention. West Ham are at home to QPR on Sunday. |
