Anthony Winter guilty of Southend grandfather's murder

A man has been found guilty of murdering his 84-year-old grandfather after a row over the alleged historical sex abuse of a relative.

John Anker was found at Stephen McAdden House in Southend on 14 November 2013, Chelmsford Crown Court heard. He had been stabbed in the heart.

Anthony Winter, 34, had already admitted attempting to murder his 81-year-old grandmother Pamela Anker.

He will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday.

During the trial, the court heard Winter phoned police after the attack at the couple's flat on Burr Hill Chase and told them: "I've killed my grandparents."

Mr Anker was found with his legs and arms tied up, with stab wounds to his neck, arms and chest.

Mrs Anker had superficial wounds to her throat and wrist.

Winter, of Westborough Road, Westcliff, will receive a life sentence but the court has adjourned sentencing to consider the time he must serve behind bars before he is considered for parole.
