A 20-year-old man has been charged with rape in connection with an attack in Londonderry on Friday. A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman in Londonderry on Friday.
A 23-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after an assault at Glenabbey Drive. Aaron Francis Hyland, from Cranbrook Court, Belfast, denies the offence.
The man has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and a number of other offences. He was also charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and a number of other offences.
He is expected to appear at Londonderry Magistrates' Court later on Monday. Londonderry Magistrates' Court heard the alleged attack happened at a house in Glenabbey Drive. The alleged victim, a 23-year-old woman, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Mr Hyland was also charged with possessing a claw hammer with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assaulting and threatening to kill a police officer and possessing cannabis.
When the defendant appeared in the dock members of the victim's family stood up and pointed their fingers at him.
The judge said while he appreciated that a young woman was in hospital seriously ill he would not tolerate any threatening behaviour during the court appearance.
A police officer told the court he could connect Mr Hyland to all of the charges.
He was remanded in custody.
