Gareth from The Office has been left out of Ricky Gervais’ forthcoming film about the continuing adventures of former Wernham-Hogg general manager David Brent, according to former co-star Mackenzie Crook.Life on the Road will follow the paper merchant turned travelling salesman’s last-ditch attempt to be a rock star. Shot in the now familiar mockumentary style of The Office, it will go into production next year.Speaking to Sky News’ Entertainment Week, Crook said he was “fascinated” to see the new movie, but doubted he would have any involvement whatsoever. “Nobody’s been in touch and I really don’t think they will,” he said. “But I am fascinated to see it.”

Crook, who played weaselly office worker Gareth Keenan throughout The Office’s original two season run on the BBC, added: “That’s going to be about the life of David Brent post The Office. I really don’t think he’s going to go back and visit Tim and Dawn and Gareth and see what they are up to because they won’t be interested in that.”

Crook did however confirm that he hopes to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. “The last few years I’ve had the time of my life going from one thing to another and different sizes of productions,” he said.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be the fifth movie in the franchise, which has so far taken $3.7bn worldwide. It is due to shoot in Queensland, Australia, in early 2015. Crook said the film-makers had been in touch with his agent to discuss his availability.
