Seaside town blaze 'suspicious'

Several unoccupied houses on Quay Road in the County Antrim seaside town were alight during the blaze. Eight fire crews attended the fire, which Aidan McGuinness of the Fire and Rescue Service said proved difficult to deal with. "We couldn't access enough water and had to use two of our fire engines to take water from the sea, which was approximately 200 yards away," he said. "However, the actions of the initial crews when they got there, to be able to enter a number of the unoccupied houses and ensure that they put fire-fighting jets of water in place, prevented the fire from extending along the row into an occupied house at the opposite end." |
