A man's body has been found in a basement room of a school in Liverpool, Merseyside Police said.

Officers were called to The Blue Coat School in Wavertree at about 12:10 BST, after concerns were raised "for the safety of a colleague".

An area of the school has been cordoned off to allow detectives to begin an investigation.

A police spokesman said: "At this early stage, his death is being treated as unexplained."

It is understood the man's body was found in part of the school away from where pupils are taught.

The 300-year-old Blue Coat School on Church Road, is a mixed grammar school for just under 1,000 students aged 11 to 18.
