Wales should have a say on how the Bank of England's monetary policies are set, says the leader of Plaid Cymru.

Leanne Wood's comments follow a meeting in London with the bank's governor, Mark Carney.

The Plaid politician said there needed to be Welsh representation on the monetary policy committee, which decides issues such as UK interest rates.

She said there needed to be a "level playing field" for the Welsh economy.

"There should be Welsh representation on the monetary policy committee, clearly there are great decisions made that affect people in Wales and presently there is no Welsh voice there," said Ms Wood.

"It's vital that our needs are heard loud and clear."

She also called for infrastructure investment to be directed "towards those areas where there is most need".

"Today, Plaid Cymru has come to London to put forward the case for the rebalancing of wealth and power in these islands.

"We know the Welsh economy is not as strong as it could be and with interventions there could be more of a level playing field for the Welsh economy."

While the details of discussions held between Ms Wood and the Bank of England governor remain confidential, she insisted this was a door that they would "keep on pushing" and there "may very well be follow ups from this meeting today".
