A search has been launched for the missing skipper and crew of a fishing trawler off the coast of Northumberland. A search is on for the skipper and crew of a Scottish fishing trawler off the Northumberland coast.
The vessel was last heard from about 100 miles east of the Farne Islands, the Humber Coastguard said. The Ocean Way, registered in Fraserburgh, was last heard from about 100 miles east of the Farne Islands, the Humber Coastguard said.
An RAF rescue helicopter has been sent and two of the five people missing have been found and winched to safety. Two search and rescue helicopters are involved in the hunt for the British skipper and his Filipino crew.
Three people have been winched to safety and are being checked over at Wansbeck Hospital in Ashington.
Two people are still missing from the boat which is believed to have sailed from North Shields on Saturday.
'Mayday message'
A statement from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "The emergency beacon from the vessel began transmitting earlier today.
"Since then the coastguard have been trying to contact the skipper and have also been broadcasting mayday relay messages which have been requesting all shipping to look out for the missing crew.
An RAF rescue helicopter began the search and was being joined by the Norwegian helicopter Rescue 1.
