Version 0 of 1.

The family of an elderly couple who were found dead at their home in Millport have said they were a "devoted couple" who had been married 66 years.

Dr Arthur Tear, who was 89, and his 88-year-old wife Mary, who is believed to have had dementia, were found in the house in the West Bay area on Monday.

It is understood the police are not looking for anyone else in connection with their deaths.

Their family said Dr and Mrs Tear were "inseparable".

The couple have three grown-up children who did not live on the island.

'Miss them terribly'

Their statement said: "We, Alistair, Hamish and Marjorie, are very sad at the loss of our mother and father.

"They were a devoted couple, inseparable since they married over 60 years ago, indeed it was to be their 66th wedding anniversary this Thursday. We will miss them terribly.

"We would like to thank everyone for their words of comfort; it is very reassuring to know how well thought of our parents were, however, we would be grateful if we were left to grieve as a family at this very sad and difficult time."

Millport is the only town on the island of Great Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde, off the coast of North Ayrshire.
