Derby shop robbery: Customer Robert Brown 'froze'

A customer "froze" when he walked into his local shop for lager and found a man pointing a gun in his face.

Robert Brown stumbled upon the armed robbery at the Goodcheers Convenience Store in Derby on Saturday evening.

Three masked men used a gun to threaten and assault a shop assistant before escaping with alcohol and hundreds of pounds from the till.

"One of them just pointed the gun at me and I froze before going back out the door and calling police," he said.

"I went to the shop just to get some lagers.

"I walked in and there were three men with a gun to the shopworker's head, shouting at him," said Mr Brown, a regular at the store.

"I froze for God knows how many seconds.

"I was rattling like a leaf. I didn't know if he was going to pull the trigger or not.

"I don't want to see anything like that again."

He said he was now afraid to go back to the shop at night.

The worker, who has been named as Govinda Karda, suffered a head wound in the robbery and has been left shaken.

His colleague Fahim Anver said: "He is too scared to work here anymore.

"He has still got some pain because they hit him.

"I feel scared but I can't do anything about it. I hope the police catch them."

Police said the suspects ran off towards Edward Street, where there were a number of people in the street.
