Version 0 of 1.

Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly have been added to the cast of True Detective’s second season, joining previously announced leads Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

McAdams, famous for her roles in Mean Girls and The Notebook, will play Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County detective with “uncompromising ethics”. British actor Reilly, meanwhile, is on the other side of the law as Jordan Semyon, the wife of Vince Vaughn’s character Frank. Kitsch is returning to television, having starred as high school football star Tim Riggins in the acclaimed series Friday Night Lights. He plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and California Highway Patrol officer with a tough past. He appeared to announce that he had got the gig in October, though the deal had apparently not yet been completed.

Season two will move away from the first run’s Louisiana setting, taking place in a fictional town in southern California. HBO’s official logline gives little away but suggests the show’s darkness and intrigue will remain in place:

Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

Production on season two has started, with HBO pencilling in a summer broadcast.
