A 58-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a police car on the A8 in Lanarkshire. A section of Scotland's busiest road was closed for 13 hours after a head-on collision involving a police car.
The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway near Eurocentral, close to where it merges with the M8 motorway, just after 2200 GMT on Tuesday. A 58-year-old driver was in a critical condition after his car hit the police vehicle at junction six on the A8 near the Eurocentral in North Lanarkshire.
Firefighters had to cut free the three people involved. One of the police officers was treated for leg and pelvic injuries and the other for cuts and bruises after the incident at about 2200 GMT on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old officer, who was driving the police car, was being treated for leg and pelvic injuries. The road was closed eastbound until 1100 GMT on Wednesday.
His 44-year-old colleague, who received a shoulder injury and cuts and bruises, was allowed home. The collision happened close to where the A8 merges with the M8 motorway.
The road reopened eastbound at junction six at about 1100 GMT on Wednesday. Firefighters had to cut free all three people from their vehicles.
The 33-year-old officer, who was driving the police car, was being treated in Monklands Hospital.
His 44-year-old colleague was allowed home.
