A canoeist has died after his canoe overturned and got stuck in a gorge on the River Roy in the Highlands. A man who died after his canoe overturned and got stuck in a gorge in the Highlands has been named by police.
The man, who is understood to come from Kent, was eventually freed by members of his group. Steven Pullinger, 49, from Rusthall Tunbridge Wells, Kent, had been pulled free from the River Roy on Friday but died at the scene.
He was treated by Scottish Ambulance Service staff but was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1500 BST on Friday. He was part of a group who had travelled north to take part in a canoeing expedition.
Northern Constabulary said no further details were being released until next of kin had been informed. The area around Lochaber had been hit by recent storms and heavy rain made local rivers particularly fierce.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team also attended due to the remote and inaccessible location of the incident. Mr Pullinger had been treated by Scottish Ambulance Service staff but was pronounced dead.
