JERUSALEM — The Israeli military on Monday said its forces fatally shot a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank.

The military said its forces opened fire after a group hurling rocks on a main road failed to heed a call to stop and disregarded warning shots. It added in a statement that the military police were investigating the episode, which took place in the vicinity of several Jewish settlements and Palestinian villages south of Nablus in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, identified the teenager as Imam Jamil Dweikat, 17.

Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups have documented the deaths of more than 40 Palestinians this year during protests or in clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

On Thursday, an 11-year-old Israeli girl was gravely wounded in a firebomb attack on her family’s car on a West Bank road leading to the settlement of El Matan. The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, and the military announced two days later that they had arrested two Palestinian suspects from the nearby village of Azzoun.
