Storms leave homes without power Lucky escape as storm fells tree
(19 minutes later)
Thousands of homes in Northern Ireland have been left without electricity following overnight storms. A County Donegal woman struck by a falling tree which crushed her car has said she is lucky to be alive.
More than 6,000 dwellings were affected by storm force winds gusting in excess of 77 miles per hour. Madge Lynch got out of her car just seconds before the tree came crashing down outside her St Johnston home.
An NIE spokeswoman said the worst-affected areas were around Omagh, Coleraine and Ballymena. She was hit by one of the branches and suffered bruising to her leg. Mrs Lynch said it was a frightening experience.
