Anger at continuing railway work Calls for rail disruption inquiry
(about 19 hours later)
A warning of continued disruption to rail travel in the west of Scotland has been met with anger from train operator First ScotRail. Train operator First ScotRail has demanded a "full inquiry" into delayed engineering work which caused serious disruption for commuters.
Network Rail said normal services through Shields Junction were not expected to resume until next week. Services from Inverclyde, Ayrshire and Renfrewshire were suspended or reduced by £9m signalling work at Shields Junction, south of Glasgow.
Work at the site has seriously disrupted local services between Glasgow, Paisley and Ayrshire. Network Rail said a full service was not expected to resume until next week and the line would close this weekend.
First ScotRail said the engineering company's handling of the project, which has overrun, was "unacceptable". First ScotRail said the firm's handling of the project was "unacceptable".

Continuing work at Shields Junction will mean a restricted service on lines on Thursday and Friday. "This raises serious concerns about Network Rail's management of the project and we are urging them to hold a full inquiry to ensure there is no repeat in future."
No trains will run at all between Glasgow and Paisley this weekend. Services have been affected since the festive period.
A spokesman for Network Rail said engineers had made "significant progress" and a full service via Paisley Gilmour Street was reinstated on Thursday afternoon.

He added: "While significant improvements to services have been made, further work will still be required this weekend to allow us to complete the project and restore full services to the Paisley Canal line early next week.
However, First ScotRail said it had asked Network Rail for a firm date for when the work will be completed. "We understand the anger and frustration which this engineering overrun has caused passengers and our railway industry partners and we would like to reiterate our apologies for the continued delay."
Managing director Mary Dickson said: "Despite many discussions and meetings to resolve this issue, we are still in the dark over when these works will finish. Network Rail said 35 major improvement schemes were carried out during the festive season, of which 33 completed "successfully and on time".
