Meanwhile, it has emerged that five people waited more than 12 hours to be admitted to Ayr Hospital over the weekend.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran said that the Ayr accident and emergency department had been extremely busy.
It said the waiting time in A&E was currently about four hours, and under two hours for minor injuries.
